SALINE Badminton Club has been saved after the decision to not reinstate the badminton court at the community centre was reversed.
The centre underwent repair work but when the floor was replaced, Fife Council was hesitant to repaint the court on the new flooring.
However, after the village, community council and Cllr Sam Steele all raised concerns over this, a solution has been reached.
Margaret Murray told the Press: "The court that we (currently) have is not standard size and the council weren't actually going to reinstate it because it wasn't proper size.
"I was just at the community council meeting last night (Tuesday, November 26) and I believe they are now going to put it in. It's not going to be standard size but it's what we’ve always played on.
"There was quite a lot of pressure from the village and from the community council and councillor so I think we’re actually getting our lines back."
The club, which has been running for over 40 years now, is keen to get back on the court and is hopeful that the lines will be re-drawn soon.
Margaret continued: "I’m glad they’ve seen sense cause there's not many people who use the community centre and we’re one of those groups."
Fife Council team manager Scott Fenton confirmed that, if funding can be identified, the council intends to add new pickleball and badminton lines as well as replacement equipment.
He explained: "The main hall is too small, and the roof is too low to provide a standard recreational court. However, the local community has indicated that they would use a non-compliant court and we are keen to support that, if possible.
"We are currently investigating funding options and will update the Saline and Steelend community as soon as we can."
