A long-standing community store in Rosyth has undergone a major refit and joined the Tesco family.
Previously named Bahia’s, the store in the town’s Camdean area has now become a One Stop after serving the area for five decades.
Previous manager Kamalj Bahia said: “It was initially my father’s store. We had the shop next door and then when the old co-op store became available we moved in. We’ve been there ever since.
“We’ve got very fond memories here, it’s a relaxed atmosphere where we know everybody, and nobody has any hassle with us.
“We’ve always helped each other and grown together. I’ve seen kids grow up, which makes me feel old.”
One Stop is a subsidiary of Tesco but operates as a separate business.
Mr Bahia said: “The Tesco family is immense to tell you the truth. The deals and pricing structure for the community and the people who live here are great. If it doesn’t work for them, it doesn’t work for me.
“There’s a Tesco store down the road, but older people can’t walk along there or get a taxi all the time. We think it’s the best fit for us, and hopefully time will tell.
“My son came back into the business when my father passed two or three years ago, and it was him that pushed this forward.
“There’s nothing left of the old store now, from ceiling to floor and everything in between, it’s all brand new. It took four weeks to do from start to finish, so it’s been a lot of work but it’s looking beautiful.”
Mr Bahia’s son Manny has now taken the reigns as manager. He said: "I thought it would be a good addition to the community. We’re doing local produce such as Stuart’s baker, and we’ll be doing delivery also to help cater for everybody’s needs in Camdean and beyond."
A grand opening will take place tomorrow from 11am to 2pm. Raffles, prizes, and children's entertainment will be available along with a live DJ.
