A £4.8 MILLION deal has been struck to build 21 new homes in Aberdour.

Work will start next month at Cala Homes development at Inchcolm Green after Fife Council's 'intervention'.

The mix of two-bedroom cottage flats and modern terrace properties for social rent, at the site off Main Street in the east of the village, should be ready early in January 2026.

Derek Lawson, strategic land director at Cala Homes, said: “Given public funding limitations it was good to conclude this contract in an area where there is very little social housing stock.

“By working closely with Fife Council, we were able to secure the future of this site - and now we are proud to be responsible for the construction of these much-needed homes.”

Last month Labour councillor Patrick Browne said that Scottish Government cuts to the affordable housing budget had led Kingdom Housing to "pull out" of an agreement to build homes for social rent at Inchcolm Green.

He said the council's intervention had ensured that the 21 new dwellings would be built.

However, SNP councillors responded and said any blame for a lack of funds should be placed at the door of Westminster and the UK Government.

Cala said each of the affordable homes will be constructed to exacting standards, ensuring energy efficiency, low-maintenance and modern living, alongside safety features such as a sprinkler fire suppression system.

The company added that they will look to utilise the local sub-contractor base to support delivery of the new properties.

If they get their way Cala will also build another 190 new homes at the Hillside School site in Aberdour, with plans now with the council.

Cllr Judy Hamilton, the council's spokesperson for housing, said: “I am delighted that in the face of a housing emergency, we are continuing to deliver our ambitious affordable housing programme, one of the UK's largest social housebuilding programmes, while the pressure on housing services continues to be relentlessly high.

“Each new council house will deliver a warmer, drier and healthier home that helps to improve the wellbeing of our tenants.”
