A violent assault took place after a late-night confrontation between two groups outside a bar in Dalgety Bay.

A man was assaulted by an offender with an “appalling record”, who had been given early release from jail.

In the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court were 23-year-old Ross Kelman, of Church Court, Kirkcaldy and 18-year-old Layla Lawrie, of Blackhill Brae, Crossgates.

Kelman admitted that on March 1, at Tesco, Regents Way, Dalgety Bay, he assaulted a man by repeatedly striking him on the body to his injury.

He assaulted another man by pushing him to the ground and repeatedly struck him on the head to his injury.

He then made derogatory remarks towards police officers. He also resisted and obstructed a police officer.

Lawrie admitted she shouted, swore and made derogatory comments.

The court was told the incident started after words were exchanged at the Louie Brown restaurant where a party had been taking place.

There was a verbal clash between two groups and the situation escalated outside as they waiting for a taxi.

The victim sustained cuts and bruises in the attack.

Solicitor for Kelman, David McLaughlin said his client was “familiar with prisons”.

Sheriff Krista Johnston deferred sentencing on Kelman until December 11 for medical information on whether he is fit to do unpaid work.

She commented: “He’s got an appalling record.”

Sentencing on Lawrie was deferred for good behaviour until May 28.
