A DUNFERMLINE schoolgirl is set to pit her wits against Europe's best after earning her first senior Scotland cap.

Caroline Weir, who attends Dunfermline High School, was called in to the squad for a clash with Iceland in Reykjavik on 1st June and made her debut as the Scots recorded a 3-2 win.

And the 17-year-old has impressed sufficiently to be included again as Scotland head to Essen to take on two-time world champions Germany, who are currently ranked second in the world behind the USA, on Saturday.

Hibernian midfielder Caroline took part in the final qualifying tournament for the under-19 European Championships in April.

She told Press Sport, "I was surprised to be called up to the squad for Iceland as the Scotland coaches like to keep players in their own age groups.

"We did have a few injuries and when the manager called, I was more excited than nervous and I thought that if I got on then it would be a bonus.

"I got 10 minutes of the game which was really good. It was quite fun, I know a lot of the players from Hibs and from playing against them and it was a good win because that's only their second home defeat since 2006." The Scots, whose victory against the Women's European Championship finalists was achieved despite missing a host of key players, will face a tougher test against the Germans, who have won the last five European Championships in a row.

But Caroline said, "I'm pretty excited about the Germany game. They're second in the world and they'll be expecting around 15,000 fans to be there, which will be the biggest crowd I'll have played in front of, but we can compete.

"My club and my family are really happy for me but it still feels a bit surreal. I definitely feel like I'm living the dream."
