A TALENTED brother and sister duo are celebrating after being crowned the best of British at a martial arts competition.
Martial arts youngsters Skye and Finn Jolly represented Kuk Sool Won of Dunfermline at the WKSA UK Tournament in Liverpool and returned home as grand champions.
And for Skye, 14, it means that she is now a Scottish, UK and European title-holder for 2017 after previous successes earlier this year.
Their achievements also helped the club, which is headed by husband-and-wife team Craig and Tammy Hill and is based in the Elgin Industrial Estate, place in the top five schools out of more than 70 who took part.
Kuk Sool Won teaches the traditional martial arts of Korea and covers kicking, joint locks, traditional weapons, throwing, meditation, acrobatics and more and competitors showed their skills in a variety of techniques.
Skye and younger brother Finn, 12, finished top of the class in their respective divisions and proud Craig told Press Sport: “Skye now has three titles – the Scottish, UK and European – and she did amazing, especially after she broke her foot two weeks before!
“The doctors told her to rest up but she went off to win the UK Championships anyway! I think that whether she was going to have the chance again to win all three in the same year played on her a mind a little bit and, because she had the won the Scottish and European, there was bit of expectation and pressure on her.
“I was really pleased for Finn as well because it’s almost as though he’s always just been pipped by a point or two so it was a nice wee finish for the club and him.
“He’s probably been a bit frustrated – I could see that after the Scottish – but to overcome those emotions, especially at that age, and pick himself up has shown that he’s a true champion in my eyes.
“They’re both top students who have trained with us from a young age. I’ve had an expectation that they’d get there but they were up against the top guys and girls from all over the country.”
The siblings were two of a 20-strong team that the club took to the competition, which also saw their first homegrown second degree black belts promoted during the ceremony.
Craig added: “It’s good to get these achievements – it’s a pat on the back and shows that we’re doing something right.
“We only had 20 competitors this year; we didn’t have as big a team and were one of the smaller ones. The other four schools who placed higher than us all had between 40-100 competitors so, to get that, I’m over the moon.”
