Rosyth 3 Kennoway Star Hearts 1, East of Scotland League, First Division
GREIG DENHAM has saluted his players efforts after they ensured Rosyth's last scheduled match at the Fleet Grounds ended in victory.
The club are aiming to move to a new facility at Pitreavie ahead of the 2023/24 season as part of a deal that will bring a new Lidl supermarket to the town, on the site of their previous home, Recreation Park, on Admiralty Road, which was sold in 2016 by Fife Council.
As part of the deal, a new ground was to be created for the club, who have been playing at the Fleet Grounds since 2018, and planning permission was granted for the facility at Pitreavie.
Rosyth ensured that their final home game of the campaign ended strongly against already-relegated Kennoway Star Hearts, with Jay Tapping and Aiden McAvoy putting them two up at the break, before Marc Sludden added a third in the final minute.
There was still time for Declan Nugent to score a consolation for the visitors, and for them to see Jamie McLelland red carded, as Rosyth earned their third win in four league outings.
They finish their campaign at Burntisland Shipyard on Saturday, having climbed into eighth place in the 16-team division, and Denham said: "It's been an enjoyable season, but I think everybody is ready for a break.
"It was a good game to finish with at home. Hopefully it's our last at the Fleet Grounds, and it was a very comfortable win.
"I don't think it was ever in doubt. We were playing against a team that were already relegated, and we played within ourselves subconsciously, but we were very comfortable. It should have been more, but at least we are creating the chances.
"We're geared towards finishing the season in the top half, and I'm delighted about that. When we came in, we set the boys a target, and we've rached those points totals. Everything the boys have given us has been great.
"If you'd showed me the league table, and said where we'd finish when we came in, I'd have bit your hand off.
"They key is to build on it next season. We've got to be challenging, and that is definitely my intention."
Saturday's fixture: East of Scotland League, First Division: Burntisland Shipyard v Rosyth (2.30pm).
