THERE were more black and white ribbons adorning a trophy last weekend as a talented young Pars side claimed cup glory.

Dunfermline Athletic Girls and Ladies FC's Under-14 Whites, who play in the Scottish Women's Football (SWF), East Region, Under-14s Caroline Weir League, lifted the SWF East Region League Cup on Saturday.

Having played their way to the final, which was held at Station Park, home of men's SPFL League Two side, Forfar Athletic, and women's side, Forfar Farmington, the talented team defeated Jeanfield Swifts 8-0 to join the Pars' men's team in collecting silverware.

Their proud head coach, Chris Wilmshurst, said: "They're absolutely buzzing.

"The whole day was fantastic; it was really well run and organised by SWF. The girls had an amazing time.

"A lot of them have played together for a while, but it was their first taste of a final and big occasion, and they loved it. They were a bit nervy at the start - in the first 15 minutes, Jeanfield had the better of the game. The girls I think were a bit awestruck by the surroundings, and they played in front of the most people they've played in front of before.

"Once they settled, they played some lovely football and scored some great goals."

Chris, who said that other teams from within the club were set to give them a guard of honour on their return to training, to mark their achievement, added: "They absolutely loved lifting the trophy. There was lots of time spent taking photos with the trophy, and they are absolutely delighted with their medals.

"It's a marker of how well Dunfermline Athletic Girls and Ladies has come on in the last few years. I really hope it does inspire others to come and play.

"Massive congratulations to the team and the club, and a big thanks to everyone who came and supported."

We will have pictures and a story on success for Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts Blues under-14s in this Thursday's Press.
