A TALENTED West Fife football team are "super buzzing" ahead of taking to the field in a national semi-final this weekend.

Dunfermline Athletic Girls and Ladies FC's Under-14 Whites will travel to Ainslie Park, home of Edinburgh men's SPFL League Two side The Spartans, on Saturday to contest the semi-final of the Scottish Power Youth Challenge Cup.

They will take on Musselburgh Windsor for the right to face either Holytown Colts 14s Red, or Hamilton Academical 14s, who meet on Sunday, in the final for their age group.

The team, who are currently top of the Scottish Women's Football (SWF) East Region Caroline Weir League, defeated Livingston-based Muireston United in their quarter-final, having previously registered successes against Cambuslang FA, and Colony Park, of Inverurie.

Chris Wilmshurst, the team's head coach, said: "They are super buzzing and very excited for the occasion.

"The parents and fans are excited too, and there's been lots of chat about it over the last couple of weeks. They've trained really hard and are raring to go.

"They're more excited than nervous, although I think the nerves will start to kick in on the day. They're full of beans and full of confidence.

"They loved the League Cup final (the SWF East Region League Cup, which they won in June, defeating Jeanfield Swifts at Forfar Athletic's Station Park) and this is another big event, so they're stoked for it.

"I think that will be really valuable. With a big crowd, and playing at a stadium, they were a bit starstruck to begin with, but, hopefully this time around, having done it once already this season, they'll be ready for it.

"It should be a good one and we're very much looking forward to it."

The match on Saturday kicks off at 9.45am.
