A TRIO of talented gymnasts from a West Fife club have proven themselves to be amongst the best on the continent after securing a top five European finish.

Molly McHale, Daisy Campbell and Nephele Idehen, who are all members of Acrobay Gymnastics Trust, produced an excellent performance at the 2023 European Acrobatic Championships.

The prestigious event, which was held in Varna, Bulgaria, saw Molly (18), Daisy (14) and Nephele (17) represent Great Britain in the senior women's group competition, which they said was "very unexpected" and "something we've dreamed of for a long time".

The three gymnasts, in their first competition at such a level, gained some excellent scores in their qualification rounds.

In their balance routine, their effort of 27.67 saw them place fourth out of 27 competing partnerships from 24 countries, whilst they also finished fifth in their all-round routine, and seventh in their dynamic routine.

Although their performances were of such a high standard that they would have been eligible for qualification for all three finals - with the top scoring eight partnerships in each going through - a rule of only one partnership per country progressing into each final saw them miss out to another GB team.

Although disappointed not to progress after performing so well, Molly, Daisy and Nephele were able to take comfort from the fact that they'd proved themselves to be amongst Europe's top five partnerships in their first major championships, which also saw their artistry and execution scores in their balance routine rated as the second highest of the competition.

Posting on Facebook, Acrobay said: "We are so proud of the girls. They did an amazing job for their first time at (the) Europeans, and proved that they are amongst the best in Europe!

"As a club we want to give you a massive well done."

The success of Molly, Daisy and Nephele was followed by that of Scarlett Haldane, Emma Nelson and Ella Gracie, who we reported in last Thursday's Press Sport had won medals representing GB at the Gutenberg Cup competition in Germany.
