A TALENTED trio of fighters from Dunfermline Boxing Club packed a punch as they produced gold standard performances at a national competition.

Darren Docherty, Eamon O'Halloran and Johnny Travers were in winning form at the Boxing Scotland Development A&B Championships, which were held last month at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.

Taking place over two successive weekends, the competition saw more than 700 entries made from clubs across the country for a third successive season, and Dunfermline Boxing Club had four of their number competing, with Kai Montgomery, who fought at a 75kg weight, joining the medal winners.

Travers, 11, boxing in the school male 11 A 42kg age category, triumphed in his final bout, over O'Neil's Boxing Club's Justin Carden, whilst Docherty, 16, came out on top against Alkali Gaye, from Aberdeen-based Byron Boxing Club, in the School Male 09 A 70kg category.

O'Halloran, 16, in the Junior Male B 57kg category, won the club's third goal medal, against Auchengeich's Jay Black, as Dunfermline enjoyed an excellent competition.

Although he didn't end up with a medal, missing out narrowly, the club also praised Montgomery, 15, commenting that he "put up a great fight and can be proud of his performance".

The club's head coach, Alex Docherty, said: "We're so proud of the boxers. They showed great skill, talent, and fitness, and they deserve all the credit for their success."

The club, which is based within Woodmill High School, are on the lookout for new members, with coach Danny Tarling noting: "Our doors are always open for anyone who wants to try boxing. We offer a free trial session, so there's no obligation to join. Just come along and see if you enjoy it."

Training sessions are held at Woodmill High School on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 7pm to 8.30pm. For more information, visit the club's Facebook page.
