NEW Pars signing Malachi Fagan-Walcott has described joining the club as a "no-brainer" and is confident he has the attributes to help the team.

On Friday, the 21-year-old became the club's first signing of the January transfer window when he completed a loan move from Cardiff City until the end of the season.

Centre back Fagan-Walcott, who has been capped by England at youth level, joined the EFL (English Football League) Championship Bluebirds in August from Tottenham Hotspur, having progressed through their youth ranks, even featuring in the UEFA Champions League.

Well-known to Pars boss James McPake, who took him on loan to Dundee three years ago, Fagan-Walcott has featured prominently for his parent club's under-21 side, and is looking forward to the opportunity he has been given at KDM Group East End Park.

Speaking to the club's website, following the postponement of Saturday's match against Airdrieonians, he said: "I am very happy, I feel like it is a good opportunity to get my name out there and help the team.

"I have heard about all the injuries but I feel that I can come and bring something to the team as a defender.

"When I got the call on Wednesday it was a no brainer. I just thought – I know the manager, I know the assistant manager and I know some of the players here so I felt comfortable with the move.

"On the ball I’m composed, calm and like to play. Defensively, heading, tackles and aggression - I bring a lot of that."

A sprint champion in the past, Fagan-Walcott played for his country at under-15, under-16 and under-17 level, and was a regular in Spurs' under-18 and under-23 sides.

Jose Mourinho handed him his senior debut as a late substitute, in a Champions League tie at RB Leipzig, of which he commented: "Everytime I think about it, every time I am asked about it, the pictures I have in my head, it was surreal. That was a while back now."

Now, though, he hopes to impress the Athletic support, adding: "When I heard about the fans I wanted to see and experience it for myself. I’m just excited to play for the badge."
