Waid Academy 17 Rosyth Sharks 57
Caledonia Midlands Region League Division Three
ROSYTH SHARKS started 2024 in fine fashion by recording a resounding victory over Waid Academy in Caledonia Midlands Region League Division Three on Saturday.
They ran in nine tries - four of which were scored by man of the match, Ryan Wallace - as they returned from the winter break with a second victory in succession, leaving them third in the table.
It was Sharks' first match since an away win at Grangemouth Stags in late November, and completed the double over their Anstruther opponents, having beaten them at Harley Street 30-15 nine weeks previously.
They built up a 33-5 lead at half-time, before outscoring Waid 24-12 in the second period, and head coach Mark Love said: "It was good to start back after a long break with a good result.
"On the flip side, it was disappointing that we only had 15 (players) available for Saturday's game. Up to that point, the least we had was 19, and generally always putting out a full 22. This was largely due to player illness and injury. Waid, however, were in a similar position, and also only had 15 available.
"Credit to the guys that made the trip to Anstruther - they put in a shift for the full game and stuck to the game plan, which resulted in the scores.
"We managed nine tries and six conversions, the first of which came within the first minute of the game. There was a period in the middle of the game where we allowed Waid to get back into the game, but the guys regained focus to ensure we maintained our lead, and stopped any further tries and any bonus points for them.
"As always, there are a few things that we need to work on as, in a tighter game, some of the errors could have cost us."
This Saturday, Rosyth are scheduled to host Perthshire Second XV at Harley Street, with a 2pm kick off.
