KELTY HEARTS midfielder Lewis Moore has agreed a new contract with the club that their manager has described as a "good bit of business".

The 25-year-old, who joined in the summer after leaving Championship outfit Queen's Park, has agreed an extension that will keep him at New Central Park for a further two years.

Former Heart of Midlothian youth product Moore, who had a loan stints at Cowdenbeath, Forfar Athletic, Falkirk and Arbroath before leaving Tynecastle to join the Spiders in 2021, has scored five goals in 20 appearances for the League One side so far.

He hasn't featured since a draw at Hamilton Academical two days before Christmas due to a knee injury, which player / manager, Michael Tidser thought could keep him out for "a month or two".

Speaking about Moore's new deal, Tidser said: "It's good news for the club. Moorey's a good player.

"I brought him in in the summer, he's had his injuries, but he's a good lad. I know he's injured just now, but he's working extremely hard to get back fit. To secure him for a couple of years is a good bit of business for the club, and hopefully he can overcome his injuries and come back because he's a good player.

"He's a big influence in that changing room. The sooner we get him back fit, the better.

"He'll maybe be another three or four weeks. He's doing straight line running - it's just about strengthening the knee.Β It'll take him time to get up to speed, but he'll be a big player going into the run-in."

Tidser, meanwhile, said that there may be room for one further addition to his squad.

Although the January transfer window closes this week, clubs outwith the top flight can still make loan signings, provided they are from a higher division within Scotland.

Kelty have signed Reuben McAllister, Brody Paterson and Brad McKay on loan deals until the end of the season from Hibernian, Hartlepool United and Falkirk respectively, as well as extending temporary deals for Aberdeen forward Alfie Bavidge and Dundee United midfielder Lewis O'Donnell.

Centre back Fergus Owens returned to parent club Hamilton Academical, whilst full back Jamie Walker and forward Tiwi Daramola, made permanent moves to Dundalk, in the League of Ireland, and Lowland League leaders East Kilbride.

"There's still maybe one spot up for grabs. I'm working behind the scenes every day, speaking to different clubs," he continued after Saturday's defeat at Stirling Albion.

"Hopefully next week we could maybe get something over the line and hopefully help the lads as well because you can see that they probably need a wee bit of help.

"You look at their bench, they can maybe bring on five or six players. We've still got a few young lads and maybe one or two first team regulars, so it's something me and the board are looking to do over the next couple of weeks."

Tidser, though, has called on his side to be more clinical in the attacking third of the pitch, having watched his side draw a blank for a second successive week, following a 3-0 Scottish Cup loss at Championship Ayr United.

In that match, and their league loss to the Binos, Kelty struggled to fashion clear-cut opportunities, and he added: "I think we've probably lacked that ruthlessness for large spells of the season to be honest with you, but, again, it's down to us.

"I'll always take responsibility as manager of the football club and it's not just about strikers. It's about midfielders, it's about certain individuals doing the right things at the right moments, and having that cutting edge in the final third.

"We've just lacked it the last few weeks. It's not through training because all the drills we put on is all about trying to score goals. It's just about players probably taking responsibility and trying to do the right things at the right moments. That's probably the difference; that'll be the difference between getting in the play-offs, and finishing seventh, eighth."
