DUNFERMLINE Carnegie Hockey Club have dropped out of Scottish Hockey's Men's Indoor National League One after losing a promotion / relegation play-off on Sunday.
They were in action at Dundee International Sports Centre at the 'Indoor Gala Day' and took on Uddingston, who recorded a 3-2 success to make the step-up.
In a fast and frantic start, it was the West Fifers who had the first chance when Josh Love's excellent shot on the turn was saved well under the bar.
However, despite a period of pressure thereafter, it was Uddingston who scored first when Ben Young pounced on a loose pass before moving in on goal and sending a low shot against the backboard.
Ben Wilson's low drive doubled their advantage early in the second quarter, but Carnegie pulled one back in the third when a fine sweeping move on the right was finished by Love.
As the match moved into the final quarter, Andrew Doyle thundered home a penalty corner to equalise.
However, with just one minute to play, Carnegie suffered heartbreak when Stephen Mackenzie's back post tap in, on the rebound off the goalkeeper, handed Uddingston their third and decisive goal to seal their promotion.
Meanwhile, Carnegie's ladies seconds and thirds both suffered losses in matches at the weekend.
The seconds travelled to play Edinburgh University eights and trailed by a goal after the first quarter.
In the second, Lauren Girdwood cancelled that out, and the match remained locked at 1-1 moving into the final period.
Jennifer Callaghan put Carnegie ahead from a short corner, but they couldn't hold on to their advantage, and an equaliser for the students was followed by a winner in the closing seconds. Gabbi Wood was voted as Carnegie's Most Valuable Player.
The thirds were also in the capital to play Grange and, although they were under pressure from the early stages, held out until the second quarter when the hosts made the breakthrough at a short corner.
Chances were created by Carnegie, whose goalkeeper, Sarah Deighan, was named MVP, but weren't converted, and they were made to pay as Grange scored twice more to complete a 3-0 victory.
