DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC LADIES saw their hopes of reaching the Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) Plate semi-finals ended on Sunday.

The Pars had aspirations of going all the way in the competition, having progressed past Westdyke Thistle and East Fife Development, but their hopes came to a dramatic end against Linlithgow Rose.

It was the fifth time that the teams had met this season and there was little to choose between them.

In the SWFL East, an 8-5 home defeat was avenged by the Pars with a 3-2 win away from home in February, whilst in the group stage of the Scottish Women's Football League Cup, Dunfermline claimed a 5-3 victory at home, whilst losing 3-2 away.

Both clubs dropped into the Plate having failed to progress to the knockout stages of the League Cup and Charles Dignan's side appeared on course for the last four at the half-time interval.

After falling behind, Alex Davie equalised before Ellis Yeaman and Becca Todd put them 3-1 up at the break.

However, Linlithgow scored twice in the second half to force an additional 30 minutes, and it was they who found the winner to move into the semi-finals and knock the Pars out.

This Sunday, Dunfermline return to league action as they travel to play Edinburgh South.
