A SPECIAL year of events at Knockhill Racing Circuit is underway and they are offering a day out on them for members of the armed forces and emergency services workers.
Scotland's national motorsport centre is embarking on its landmark 50th anniversary year, and welcomed crowds on Sunday to its hot hatch family fun day.
This weekend, the venue will host its first car event of 2024, with its maiden bike meeting of the year following over the next, and those working in the NHS and 'blue light' services can join members of the armed forces being able to attend either free of charge.
For more than a decade, Knockhill have hosted an armed forces appreciation day, offering entry to a car race meeting for serving members and veterans, and in 2019 they achieved the highest level of recognition in Britain, the gold covenant, for services to the armed forces.
Stuart Gray, Knockhill director of events, said: "In our 50th anniversary, we're really pleased and honoured to be hosting two armed forces appreciation events, this weekend, and expanded to the bikes next weekend.
"Not only that, they're both days of the weekend as well, so there's four days that people can get in free of charge, and it's been expanded.
"Last year it was an NHS appreciation, after the pandemic. This year, we've expanded it again to the blue light workers, so if you're in the police, ambulance, fire service or coastguard, and have got a blue light card, you get in free of charge as well.
"This year people pre-order their complientary ticket online, and they just bring proof of service or membership."
On Saturday and Sunday, the Scottish Championship Car Racing meeting will feature KMSC (Knockhill Motor Sports Club) and SMRC (Scottish Motor Racing Club) championships, including modsports, minis, classics, C1s, Fiesta ST's and Super Lap Scotland.
Scottish Championship Bike Racing follows on April 27-28, and begins an action-packed calendar of events to mark 50 years since Knockhill opened.
Press Sport will have a full preview in next week's edition and, for more information, find Knockhill on Facebook, or visit www.knockhill.com.
