CAPTAIN Callum Deas joked that his main thought after leading Swifts to glory was to make sure he didn't drop the precious silverware.

The centre back holds the distinction of becoming the first player with the club's senior team to lift a trophy after they battled to a memorable victory in Sunday's East of Scotland Qualifying Cup final against Dunbar United.

The 27-year-old has been with the club since 2019, a year after they formed a senior side to play in the East of Scotland League, and has made more than 100 appearances.

He told Press Sport: "It's unbelievable. You dream of winning it, then it happens and you don't know what to do yourself!

"I'm walking up and picking up the medal and the trophy, and I'm thinking I'm just scared to drop it!

"It's brilliant.

"I did think about it (lifting the cup) last week. I thought, 'what am I going to do if it actually is the case', and I managed to do it. It's the best Sunday I've had in a while!"

The Swifts had to dig deep in the latter stages of the final, after a Taylor Hendry penalty brought Dunbar to within one of their two-goal lead, thanks to Aaron Wood and Ben Finnan.

Deas continued: "With five minutes to go I was struggling a wee bit, twitching my hammy, but we got there in the end, thank God!

"It means everything.

"It's the first cup final and first trophy with the club. Brilliant and, to get the honour of captaining the side, what more could you ask for?

"I don't even know what to say about it!

"We went out in the second half with a game plan and it just did not happen at all. We just had to dig in, sit in.

"Sometimes it doesn't go the way you want it to and you just need to find a way to get the result, which we did today, so well done to all the boys."
