TALENTED youngsters from Dunfermline Track and Field Athletics club began their Youth Development League matches with a host of personal bests and fine performances.
A total of 19 club athletes, in the under-13 and under-15 age groups, travelled to Grangemouth recently to compete in the Division Two match, amassing 30 PBs in the process.
In the under-13 category, Sean Asamoah clamed first place finishes in both the 75 and 150 metres, and added a third place in the shot putt with a 5.78 metre throw, whilst Finlay Gibson finished fourth in the 75m in 11.23 seconds.
In a competitive 800m, Millie Gordon was 14th in three minutes and three seconds, whilst Evanne Carson produced an excellent time of 11.07 seconds to place seventh in the 75m.
There was a fourth place for Alfie Whyte in the 800m, in 2.3 minutes; Poppy Buchanan finished eighth in the 150m in 23.01; Jaden MacKay placed 11th in the shot putt with a throw of 5.01m; and Rosie Dyson leapt a season's best 3.10m in the long jump.
In the under-15 age group, Riley Gardiner secured second place in both the 100m and 200m, with season bests of 12.70 and 25.50 seconds respectively, and Luke Hamilton added three PBs in his events, the best of which was a run of 13.20 in the 100m, where he placed sixth.
Arabella Mitchell, in a 15.50 season's best, was 13th in the 100m, and Pippa Rambaut was a very creditable fifth in the 200m (29.20).
Charlie MacKay ran an excellent time of two minutes and 34 seconds to finish fourth over 800m, a distance that Poppy Warner, with a season's best of two minutes and 40 seconds, finished 10th, whilst Lucy Gibb was an excellent second in the 1500m in five minutes and seven seconds.
Also in the 1500m, Lily Pritchard was eighth in five minutes and 38 seconds; Milly Robinson was 17th in the 70m hurdles in 17.70 , and Caitlin Chalmers was fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.35m.
A club spokesperson added: "An excellent start to the season, with many of our young athletes competing in a higher age group for the first time. Well done to them all and we move forward into the second match with great confidence."
