DUNFERMLINE Athletic Ladies endured disappointment in their final home league game of the season by suffering defeat on Sunday.
Charles Dignan's team, who remain third in the SWFL (Scottish Women's Football League) East table, hosted Musselburgh Windsor at Pitreavie, but went down by a 2-1 scoreline.
The East Lothian side took the lead from the penalty spot, before Alex Davie equalised in the same fashion, but it was the visitors who went on to score the decisive goal.
"Ultimately, it was a disappointing and frustrating result," assistant manager, Gregg McSwiggan, commented.
"The ladies know that they're capable of much, much more, and the standard wasn't there on Sunday.
"We were lacklustre from the first whistle. Decision making was poor all over the park, and it would be remiss of me not to mention the decision making from the match official. There were a couple of bizarre decisions but he was the same match official for both sides, so we have to look at ourselves.
"It's important that the ladies take on board what we've said and go and bring the standards back up in a couple of weeks' time against McDermid."
He added: "It's important not to dwell on this result and to note how well we've done over the last few weeks, and since Charles and I have come in.
"They've been fantastic. It's just a reminder that we need to maintain the standards all the time but, as I've said to them, you learn more in defeat than in victory, so we aim to put that right in a couple of weeks time and go again."
An eighth loss in 19 league matches still leaves the Pars third with 31 points with a game to go, above Edinburgh Uni Thistle on goal difference.
However, the capital team have a game in hand, whilst Edinburgh South, a point back in fifth, and Windsor, who are two behind Athletic, have played two and three fewer games respectively.
Dunfermline are due to conclude their season a week on Sunday, May 26, with a derby match away to McDermid Ladies.
Meanwhile, the club have announced that Becca Todd is the latest player to commit her future to the Pars for next season.
She joins a number of key players in extending her stay with the team, which includes captain Jude Shepherd, and vice skipper, Alex Davie, as well as Jodie Simpson, Ellis Yeaman, Jodie Barclay, Carolanne Phee, Emily Wyse, Emily McGurnaghan, Lauryn Dow, Summer Garrity, Hannah Colyer, Shannon Kennedy, Olivia Young, Taylor Shields, Tyler Sibbons and Kira Sutter.
