DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club star Finlee Horton has been feted with a national prize for one of the season's best scores.

He was honoured at Scottish Rugby's 2024 Community and Recognition Awards ceremony, which was held at Murrayfield on Friday evening, with the men's Try of the Season prize.

The governing body host a 'try of the month' vote throughout the campaign to celebrate the great rugby being played across the country, and a season-wide accolade was presented for male and female players at the end of season prizegiving.

In choosing Finlee's effort, which was voted February's best, in a match against Greenock Wanderers, Scottish Rugby said: "Dunfermline showed their fantastic ability to throw the ball across the pitch and exploit space with a series of offloads carrying play from within their half right to the try line, with flanker Finlee Horton crashing over the whitewash for the score."

Speaking to Scottish Rugby after his win, Finlee said: "It's crazy. It really is because I wasn't expecting it.

"It's great to be nominated and to have two Dunfermline tries nominated as well was just a great achievement for the club after having quite a tough season all round."

Gavin Emerson, head coach of Dunfermline Rugby Club's men's first XV, added: "This was a superb achievement for the club and highlights how far the men's side has come over the past two seasons.

"What was also special about this occasion is that we had two tries in the running for try of the season, with Callum White winning try of the month in October.

"Personally, I'm really chuffed for the lads to be getting the recognition, and a chance to visit Scottish Gas Murrayfield."

Headlined by the Club of the Year and Spirit of Rugby prizes, Scottish Rugby's annual awards evening saw around 150 from teams across the country attend and celebrate community heroes within the game.

In their first season at national league level since 2015, following promotion from Caledonia Region League Division One last year, Dunfermline finished sixth in National League Division Four, consolidating their place at that level for next season.
