ABERDOUR Shinty Club's second team were knocked out of the Bullough Cup on penalties after a "fantastic end-to-end game".

The Silver Sands outfit hosted Kyles Athletic in the second round of the competition on Saturday, in which eight goals were shared.

Sam Evans gave 'Dour a 12th minute lead and, in the 44th minute, Logan Adams doubled their advantage.

Kevin McKell added a third on the hour mark for the Mowi South Division Two side, but their opponents from the league above got back into the contest through Ethan Kerr three minutes later.

Two goals inside five minutes from Roddy MacColl drew Kyles level to force extra-time, in which McKell netted his second to give Aberdour a 4-3 lead.

MacColl, though, soon equalised to complete his hat-trick and, after the teams couldn't be separated, penalties were needed to decide a winner.

Unfortunately for the hosts, they were beaten 3-1 in the shoot-out, but head coach, Lisa MacColl, noted: "The squad, primarily youngsters with a few older heads, did themselves proud against a team playing in a league above.

"There was some excellent play and great potential on display, with 'Dour dominating early on, but only losing out to experience as legs tired.

"It was an under-17 midfield line-up that did so well and, for the majority, had an average age of 15 / 16.

"There is so much to take from the experience of playing against a South One side."

On Saturday, the seconds return to league action at Uddingston, with a 2.30pm start. Aberdour's first team, competing in Mowi South Division One, are next in action on June 8, at home to Ballachulish.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Aberdour's ladies were back in WCA (Women's Camanachd Association) Mowi National Division action against Lochaber.

After winning their second game of the season in their previous outing, against Ardnamurchan, the visitors proved too strong on this occasion.

They ran out 6-0 winners, with four of their goals scored before half-time, thanks to Natalie MacDonald, who netted four of them, and a brace from Claire Delaney.

The ladies are back in action at Silver Sands this Sunday against Kinlochshiel, with throw-up at noon.
