ENGAGING more people with cycle speedway is a key objective for Fife Revolutions as they aim to win a Scottish title this year.
The club, based at a custom-built track within the grounds of Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline, are competing in the SPAR Scottish League as well as the British Cycling North and Scotland League Division One, Division Two and Division Three.
The Revolutions are in pole position to retain their senior team title in the Scottish League following the third round at the JDB All Trades 'Fastbowl' on Sunday, which they dominated.
A 52-point win, ahead of Edinburgh Falcons, who scored 37, Glasgow Cyclones, who were third with 34, and Northumbria Vikings, who collected 31 points, leaves Fife four points clear of nearest challengers Edinburgh with two rounds left.
Fife are also one point ahead of Border Raiders, who were winners in the latest round, in the women's league, whilst Eva Grandison leads the girls grand prix.
Whilst they aim for success in competitive racing, Revolutions head coach, Craig Masson, has been pleased with the number of new riders taking up the sport.
Earlier this month, in conjunction with Queen Anne High's P7 transition events, they held a session involving pupils from seven West Fife primary schools, a number of whom then attended a club night that saw 30 riders attend.
"Our main focus is to get new people taking part in the sport and developing riders for success in the future," Masson commented.
"We've pushed the primary schools engagement and we hope that they will continue to come along and see if we can produce the next wave of Fife superstars.
"When they come up, they have an hour-and-a-half on the track. We hope it peaks their interest and that they come to club nights and, if they enjoy it, come back.
"We've also had a couple of adults join, one of whom is in their early 60s. We don't turn anyone away - if you want to come along and have a shot, and enjoy it, you're more than welcome."
Meanwhile, Revolutions riders Jake Slight and Kayden Davidson have been called up to the senior Scotland team for a Home Internationals competition later this year in Leicester.
