FORMER Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club youth player Eve Pearson helped Scotland's women to move to 16th in the world after an unbeaten series with Canada.

The 'Tartan Hearts' played four matches against their opponents, from May 25-29, and collected three victories after a draw in the opener.

A win in the second meeting moved the Scots into the top 16 of the world rankings, and former Commercial Primary School pupil Pearson, who plays her hockey for Grossflottbeker THGCC in Germany, played her part.

Two goals from the penalty spot saw the first match, all of which were played at Glasgow National Hockey Centre, end 1-1, with Jika Nyirenda netting for the hosts.

A fine 3-1 success for Scotland followed in the second encounter, with Heather McEwan, Ellie MacKenzie and Katherine Holdgate grabbing their goals, before Jenny Eadie's goal gave them a 1-0 win in the third.

Canada were seen off for a third time in the final match of the series as Scotland enjoyed a fine 3-0 win.

McEwan set them on their way, before Nyirenda added a second, with Pearson, who set up Becca Birch to come close to making it three, and Eadie dominating the midfield as the contest moved into the third quarter.

A second of the game for McEwan increased Scotland's advantage and sealed the win, with head coach, Chris Duncan, commenting: "One of the biggest signs of development is watching the players problem solve and we’re starting to see our philosophy really build on the pitch.

"The youngsters coming into the squad did a really good job and it’s great to see the depth in our pathway. It’s important to give opportunities to the stars of tomorrow and there’s a lot of positives to take from the players playing their first games for Scotland.

"Winning is a habit and we’re delighted to win three games in a row, and come through the series undefeated."

Pearson, who made her Scotland debut at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and her team-mates will aim to qualify for the EuroHockey Championships in 2025 later this summer.

In August, they will host qualifiers with Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Lithuania and Wales, with the winners of the section qualifying for next year's tournament.
