DUNFERMLINE Water Polo Club are hoping to make a successful splash for the weekend as they prepare to go up for the cup.

On Saturday, Scottish Swimming's Water Polo Scottish Cup finals will take place in Dundee, and four teams from Dunfermline will aim to bring home silverware.

Their under-17, under-19 and senior women's sides, as well as the senior men, will contest four of the six finals that will be played.

And they are a repeat of the matches from 12 months ago, when Dunfermline won two and lost two.

The under-17 women's team, who were undefeated in their league programme, will be first in action, at 8.30am, against Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth, hoping to turn the tables after going down 16-7 to them in last year's final.

Those two clubs will contest the third match of finals day, at 11.30am, in the under-19 women's event, having met in the 2023 edition.

In a dramatic conclusion, Kayleigh Roy's goal just before the final buzzer gave Dunfermline a memorable 11-10 victory to successfully defend the trophy they won in 2022 - when the under-17s were also winners, against Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth - against Portobello.

The senior women, for a third successive season, will take on Warrender, aiming to make it a hat-trick of successes, in the penultimate match at 2.30pm, before the senior men face old rivals Portobello in the concluding final at 4pm.

They go into it having been defeated 4-2 on penalties after a highly competitive 9-9 draw between the sides last year, and Richie Metcalfe, Dunfermline Water Polo Club secretary, commented: "It's always tough against Portobello in a cup final, and we've not beaten them for a few years.

"The under-17 girls were undefeated in their league, and the under-19s were second only on goal difference, so they'll have a tough go at the final.

"It's always a struggle at this time of year. All the teams have got players missing because of holidays or school trips, so it's a challenge for all the teams. They will all be tough games and I'm sure they'll give it their all.

"It should be a good day. Everyone's looking forward to it."

The women's under-19s side includes players from Dundee-based club, Menzieshill, whilst some Dunfermline players will be part of Menzieshill's men's under-19s team that will play Stirling.

The finals day takes place at the Olympia Leisure Centre in Dundee, and entry for spectators costs £2 for adults, and £1 for under-16s.

Dunfermline Water Polo Club are always keen for prospective new players to join them, with open training sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and are especially eager to bolster their under-13 age group.
