ATHLETIC assistant boss Dave Mackay is hopeful of adding new players but believes they have a "strong squad" when everyone is fit.

Since the close of the season, the Pars have secured the services of forward, Chris Kane, on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell from St Johnstone.

He penned a two-year contract last month, whilst fellow forward, Alex Jakubiak, midfielder, Paul Allan, goalkeeper, Max Little, defender, Miller Fenton, and youngsters, Michael Beagley and Jake Rennie, all departed.

Speculation also continues to link full back Josh Edwards with a move away from the club, with Charlton Athletic and Bristol Rovers amongst his rumoured suitors.

Speaking after Kane's arrival, Mackay was asked if he would be the first of a few new faces, to which he replied: "We'll just have to wait and see.

"We'll have budget meetings with Thomas (Meggle), the owners and David Cook, and we'll see what happens from there.

"We always said that, when everybody's fit, we've got a strong squad, and everybody has finished the season fit, except for Ewan Otoo, who we hope will be back for pre-season. It wasn't as bad as first feared.

"Hopefully, if we get everybody starting pre-season, we're not in as bad a position as what we were come January there, when you're scrambling about looking to bring players in.

"We'll hopefully get to add some players. We'll just have to wait and see."

Although Kane has made his way back to KDM Group East End Park, a number of other loan players have since returned to their parent clubs following the end of the season.

They include Blackpool duo, Owen Moffat and Brad Holmes; Cardiff City pair Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Xavier Benjamin; Celtic's Ben Summers; and Livingston's Miles Welch-Hayes.

When asked if any of them could return to the club, Mackay added: "Who knows. We just need to wait and see what happens.

"A couple of them did really well in their time here so, again, we'll see when we find out budget-wise what we can do, and what we can bring in, then we'll re-visit that.

"All these guys were great to work with.

"It was a strange season where we had to bring in so many players in the January transfer window. Again, some came in and played a lot, some never played, but one thing about them was that their attitude was spot-on.

"Every day in training, they worked so hard. There was never any complaints.

"Yeah, they would've been disappointed not to have featured more than they did, but what we can say is they were great kids, first and foremost, with great attitudes. They fitted into the group and were never any hassle at all.

"I can't speak highly enough of those guys and we wish them all the best back at their clubs or, if they're coming out of contract, then we'll see where they end up next and follow their careers."
