WITH their East Division 2 game postponed on Saturday due to opponents Carlton 3rd XI’s problems with getting a suitable ground, the Dunfermline and Carnegie spotlight fell on the 2nd XI.

They were looking to continue their winning run in Division 5, when Carlton 4th XI came to McKane Park.

On batting first, in a game reduced to 30 overs-a-side due to a poor weather forecast, the home side made a good start, with Sohael Ali and James Spreng batting aggressively, putting on 38 for the first wicket.

A mid-innings collapse saw them in trouble at 77 for 5, however, skipper Mohammad Ashraf came to the rescue, with a good knock which took him to within seven of a half-century, and the team past the 150 mark.

Carlton batted well in reply but struggled to keep up with the required run rate, and in the end, despite a brave effort, finished 13 runs short. The win, DCCC’s seventh in succession, puts them top of Division 5.

DUNFERMLINE and Carnegie 3rd XI lost to Bass Rock 2nd XI in a Division 8 game played at The Cairns on Saturday.

Bass Rock batted first, in this 35-overs-a-side game, and accumulated runs at around four an over and a late push took their total to 171.

DCCC’s reply saw fine innings from Arvad Dejesh and Alan Leitch, but some tidy bowling by the visitors saw the Dunfermline and Carnegie side finish well adrift.
