A CLASSIC track from rock band Queen helped Fife Artistic Swimming Club to produce a majestic performance in the pool.

They struck gold at the Scottish Artistic Swimming Club Championships, which was held at Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline on Saturday.

The senior team won gold in the last and biggest event, the Combination Team, managing to see off stiff competition from Clydebank, who came in second, and third-placed Edinburgh.

The entertaining and fast paced routine was swum to the Queen track 'Another One Bites The Dust' and was choreographed and coached by senior swimmers, Zoe Affleck and Katie-Anne Angel.

The senior team was: Emily, Carla, Hannah, Violet, Orla and Faith.

The junior team of Maisie, Keira, Freya, Olivia and Holly Reid swam their Wicked Ones routine well and were placed 5th.

The club's chair, Lesley Bloomer, said: “We are so proud of both our teams.

"The senior team swam brilliantly. Not in our wildest dreams did we think we’d take gold – but they delivered it in amazing style.

"Our junior team swam really well, especially as most of the team have not competed in a Scottish competition before. They’ve gained great experience which will help them in years to come."

She added: "What makes the senior win all the more amazing is that it is the first team routine that two of our older swimmers, Zoe and Katie-Anne, have choreographed.

"They’re very talented and as well as working out the routine, they coached the team very effectively. Together with Eva Williamson, who worked superbly with our junior team, they are fantastic additions to our strong and dedicated poolside team.”
