A STRONG performance in the field opened the door for victory for Dunfermline and Carnegie on Sunday in their East Division 2 match with Drummond / Trinity 2nd XI at McKane Park.

The visitors made a good start on batting first, with Mohammad Dawood steadily picking up runs, and inside 10 overs they had 45 on the board.

Dawood continued to head towards 50, but the entrance of skipper Daniel Styer to the home attack, saw the tide turn.

The Trinity opener completed his half century, but was out soon after and wickets started to fall steadily with Drummond / Trinity all out in 30 overs for 119.

The Dunfermline reply began steadily, through George Olney and Dylan Wood going along at five an over, and when Olney was out for 29, Vasu Reddy joined Wood in keeping up the momentum and guiding the team home to their third successive win, taking them on to 69 percent in fifth spot.

Drummond / Trinity 2nd XI (5) 119, M Dawood 50, H Muhammad 19, D Styer 3 for 15, M Shafiq 3 for 24, R Cox 2 for 8.

Dunfermline and Carnegie (20) 123 for 4, G Olney 29, D Wood 22, M Shafiq 22 not out, V Reddy 21, H Anwar 2 for 24.

DUNFERMLINE and Carnegie 2nd XI made it eight Division 5 wins in a row with an impressive 90 run victory over Penicuik 2nd XI, at Kirkhill, on Saturday.

On being put in to bat the Fifers got off to a solid start, and then picked up the pace with Anthony Xavier making a fine half century, with excellent support from Muhammad Irfan, James Spreng and Nishi Nithiyannathan.

Chasing over 200 meant that Penicuik had to maintain a run rate of over five an over, and this led to them having to take chances.

Wickets fell steadily and Johnny Hutton collected four scalps as the innings crumbled to just over 120, with the result leaving the second string level with Livingston 2nd XI in top spot, who come to McKane Park this Saturday.

Dunfermline and Carnegie 2nd XI (20) 216 for 9, A Xavier 50, N Nishiyannathan 44 not out, J Spreng 39, M Irfan 36, P Kingsbury 4 for 33, E Wood 2 for 24.

Penicuik 2nd XI (8) 126, G Davidson 37, J Hutton 4 for 12, A Khan 2 for 33.

DIVISION 8 leaders, Edinburgh CC 3rd XI proved too strong for Dunfermline and Carnegie 3rd XI, at The Meadows.

Edinburgh found the visiting attack hard to master, on a helpful wicket, with runs hard to come by and they were bowled out for 108. However it proved a winning total as Dunfermline's third team couldn't reach the half-century.

Edinburgh CC 3rd XI (20) 108, H Butt 22, A Ashraf 22, P Couper 2 for 15, M Spiers 2 for 17, S Khan 2 for 22.

Dunfermline and Carnegie 3rd XI (5) 47, S Khan 14, H Zeeshan 3 for 11, A Ashraf 2 for 9.

BROOMHALL were good winners in their Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union Division 2 match with St Modan’s, at The Cairns, on Saturday.

The visitors batted first but runs proved elusive, with Phil Ward’s spin proving a real test for them, and they were shot out in 25 overs for 72.

St Modan’s struggled to contain the home side who knocked off the runs in 13 overs.

St Modan’s (2) 72, T Sharma 19, P Ward 4 for 11.

Broomhall (20) 73 for 2, J Hynd 35 not out, D Latha 2 for 16.
