DUNFERMLINE has two new world champions in martial arts.
The pair - Connor Smith and Vari Beveridge - were up against the best from across the globe but fought their way through to win gold medals.
They're students at Mr Glennie UKTC Taekwondo school and returned triumphant from the World Taekwondo Championships at Heriot Watt University on Sunday.
Vari also picked up a bronze, while Ben Marshall earned silver and Lily Finch and Anneli Curtis were both awarded bronze medals in their categories.
Richard Glennie, instructor at the school, was beaming with pride as his students earned plaudits for their performances.
“They did great,” he said. “They train really hard, some of them were training around two or three times a week.”
The school’s performance at the world championships is a fitting way to mark the end of their time at the current Woodmill facility.
The Taekwondo school will be moving to the new Dunfermline Learning Campus, with the final training sessions taking place this week.
Richard added that it was a nice way to round off their time at Woodmill before starting fresh at the new premises.
“The students all attend Woodmill,” he continued. “We’re moving to the Dunfermline Learning Campus soon.
“Thursday is our last day at Woodmill before we move to the new DLC in October which is sad but exciting.”
Anyone looking to join the taekwondo school should take note that after the summer holidays, sessions will now be held at the Dunfermline Learning Campus.
Sessions are led and taught by Richard and Derek Webb, who are qualified at 4th and 3rd Dan, respectively.
