DENIZ MEHMET has spoken out about his health scare in the last game of the season.

The Pars goalkeeper made his return to pre-season, joining up with his team mates since collapsing on the pitch against Ayr.

Medical staff rushed to his aid in what was a scary incident and it completely overshadowed any thoughts of the match as he was stretchered off with five minutes to go.

There were fears it could have been a problem with his heart - and he admitted he had an extra test, just to make sure - but he's fit and healthy and provided a positive update for the fans.

Speaking on the club website, the popular goalie said: “I went to the hospital afterwards in Ayr and had blood tests and had an ECG to see everything going on.

“At the time, there were a few things that weren’t right but I saw a specialist afterwards just to make sure.

“It was a mixture of not feeling right on the night, so taking extra caffeine to try and get me through the game but obviously it wasn’t working. I just remember feeling worse and worse.

“It wasn’t a great feeling really, not really knowing the severity of it at the time. I felt a little bit sluggish and a little bit slow for about 24 to 36 hours.

“It took it out of me – a mixture of a late night as well, I didn’t get back home until four or five in the morning. That took it out of me and it just plays on, and sits in the back of your mind when you are processing it.”

Luckily, Mehmet has since been cleared for any lasting ailments, with all his blood tests coming back clear.

The incident has been put down to a viral condition, with no underlying issues reported, providing great relief to the 31-year-old.

He continued: “I have felt absolutely fine since, the blood tests have come back fine. They have just said that it was viral so there are no underlying issues there thank God.

“I just remember feeling not great in the warm-up, I just felt a bit weak. When half time hit and I felt a lot worse.

“I started feeling that I was going to be sick all the time and as the game went on I started feeling dizzy, losing vision as it was getting worse and worse. It just got a bit too much at the time and I had to come off.”

Mehmet added: “If you are going to try and find a positive, it is to happen in the last game of the season when we can’t get promoted or end up in the play-offs, we can’t get relegated.

“It was possibly the best game to get it but it sums up our season as a whole for something as drastic as that to happen after all the injuries that we had.

“It was good that I got away relatively quick for a little holiday and got to rest on that.

“To be fair, on the same day I landed I ended up going across the road from the airport in Glasgow to the clinic and getting an extra ECG done just to see if I needed monitored.

“The specialist was happy with what he saw and said that he was pretty sure that it was viral so all good to go.”
