WET weather on Saturday denied Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club's first and second teams the chance of going for victories in their latest league matches.

Both sides started their respective outings in East of Scotland Cricket Association Division Two and Division Five, but neither finished as the conditions brought play to an early halt.

At McKane Park, a fine innings of 85 not-out by Vasu Reddy saw the first XI set Murrayfield DAFS second XI a target of 182.

After 11 overs, the visitors had reached a modest 22 for no wicket when a downpour left puddles on the square, and a decision to abandon the match a formality.

Across the Forth, at Inverleith, Stewart's Melville third XI had managed 156 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 40 overs against Dunfermline and Carnegie's second XI.

The visitors were then racing along at 60 for no wicket in reply, through James Spreng, with 33, and Soheil Ali, with 19, after seven overs when a deluge forced an abandonment.

They remain top of the Division Five table, but the early stoppage to their match prevented them from having the opportunity to win a 10th match in succession.

This Saturday, Dunfermline and Carnegie first XI travel to face Kirk Brae in Division Two, whilst the second XI host Gala second XI at McKane Park, with both matches beginning at 1pm.

On Sunday, however, Dunfermline and Carnegie third XI took advantage of better weather to claim their second win of the season in Division Eight.

Livingston fourth XI were the visitors to McKane Park and were beaten by 92 runs, with player / coach, Paddy Couper, and Douglas Shanks the main contributors, along with Alan Leitch, to a total of 192.

The visitors struggled throughout their innings against tight bowling and, as wickets fell at regular intervals, they were all out for 100 runs.

This Saturday, the third XI host Leith FAB four XI at The Cairns, with a 1pm start.

Meanwhile, Broomhall Cricket Club hosted Perth Doo'cot third XI at The Cairns on Saturday in Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division Two, losing by 130 runs.

They are not scheduled to return to league action until July 20, and an away trip to Meigle second XI.
