MEMBERS of Dunfermline Track and Field recently headed to Grangemouth to participate in two separate league matches.
The third and final Youth Development League match of the 2024 season, and the second Central and South Scotland Athletics League encounter, both took place at the venue.
In the former, Dunfermline Track and Field were aiming to finish the season well and avoid bottom spot in Division Two, and several of their under-13 and under-15 athletes produced excellent performances.
In the younger age group, Finlay Gibson began the quest for points with a couple of good track performances, recording an 11.08 second personal best (PB) in the 75 metres, placing eighth, and another best of 17.40 seconds in the 75m hurdles, in which he finished ninth.
Poppy Buchanan recorded three PBs, in the 75m, thanks to a time of 11.18 that saw her place sixth, and in the 1200m and shot put; Evanne Carson finished fourth, with an 11.39 second PB, in the 75m; and Rosie Dyson and Millie Gordon were 12th and 13th respectively in the 800m, with new best times of two minutes and 55 seconds, and three minutes and three seconds.
Riley Gardiner led the way for the under-15s with a stunning win in the 300m, recorded with a new club record time of 38.30, whilst adding a second place in the 100m.
Alistair Rimmer secured a 44.65 PB in the 300m, whilst Pippa Rambaut placed sixth in her 100m with a 13.79 PB.
Freya Keirnon (10th) and Molly Robinson (12th) also recorded PBs, of 49.11 and 50.27, over 300m, whilst Lucy Gibb was third over 1500m in five minutes and 14 seconds.
There were also fifth places for Lottie Thomas, over 100m in 13.72, and Poppy Warner, in the 800m, in two minutes and 30 seconds.
Field athletes also contributed crucial points for the team, with a pair of eighth-place finishes in the long jump and javelin - the latter providing an 11.06m PB - being achieved by Caitlin Chalmers, and a season's best leap of 3.39m in the long jump by Briony Argo.
Despite their efforts, however, Dunfermline Track and Field placed bottom of Division Two, and they face a wait to see if they are re-elected to the league.
In the Central and South Scotland Athletics League, meanwhile, the club were aiming to build on success at their first match and maintain hopes for promotion back to Division One.
All of the club's age groups were utilised, and it resulted in a successful day.
In the under-11 category, Alice Thomas took first places, and PBs, in the 150m (23.06) and 600m (one minute and 58 seconds), as well as claiming a second place in the long jump.
Alfie Walsh collected bests in the 150m (25.49) and 600m, placing sixth and fifth respectively, whilst Mara Webber, in her first league match, produced PBs in each of her three events.
Under-13 athlete Finlay Gibson set the pace early, with third-place finishes and PBs in the 200m (29.41) and 70m hurdles (16.00), whilst a stunning 1500m run of five minutes and 10 seconds from Alfie Whyte (PB) saw him take first place.
Evanne Carson placed second in the shot put (5.67m), adding a PB and a third place in the 200m (20.37), whilst Rachel Petrie scored PBs in the 200m (32.31) and long jump (4.56m).
Poppy Buchanan finished fourth in the 70m hurdles (14.70, PB) and sixth in the 1200m (four minutes and 41 seconds, PB), whilst there were also two PBs for Rosie Dyson in the 1200m (four minutes and 42 seconds, placing seventh), and in the javelin (6.96m).
Jaden MacKay threw an excellent 18.02m in his javelin to win the event with a PB, and added another best of six minutes and five seconds in the 1500m.
Luke Hamilton took top spot in the under-15 200m (25.40), whilst Alistair Rimmer set PBs in finishing third in both the 200m (26.39) and long jump (4.18m).
Pippa Rambaut ran 28.47 to claim third in her 200m, in which Arabella Mitchell finished sixth with a PB of 29.79.
Lily Pritchard was fourth in the 1500m, in five minutes and 49 seconds, and there was a pair of PBs for Lottie Thomas in the 70m (14.02) and high jump (1.40m), placing second in both.
Molly Robinson set a 15.46 second PB in her hurdles event, and Caitlin Chalmers' best performance saw her collect a fourth place.
Amy Jenkinson, an under-17 athlete, set a new league record by winning the 80m hurdles in 12.19, but that only stood for 15 minutes, when it was broken in a Central and South Scotland Athletics League Division One match in Ayr.
Kieron Ash set three new PBs, in the 200m (25.79), long jump (4.80m), and javelin (10.21m), and there was a new best, and sixth place, for Sarah Kane in the 200m (27.64), as well as a third place in the javelin (19.25m).
Sophie Thomas was second in the 200m (25.89), and Christopher Doig finished eighth in the long jump (3.91m) with his best performance.
Of the senior athletes who competed, Darcie Black placed first in both the 100m hurdles (15.78) and long jump (5.35m), whilst Kirstin Penman added PBs in the 80m hurdles (18.24) and long jump (5.03m), where she finished first and second, and in the 200m (27.52).
The final league match takes place in late August, with Dunfermline Track and Field tied in second, with the top two places being enough for promotion.
