ICONIC Knockhill Racing Circuit are set to continue celebrating a landmark year by paying tribute to a Scottish motorsport legend next month.

Scotland's national motorsport centre is in the midst of celebrating its 50th anniversary, and is preparing to welcome of the jewels in its calendar, the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), over the weekend of August 10-11.

As part of the event, they are set to mark 60 years since Jim Clark won the British Saloon Car Championship title, showing off up to six of his cars over the course of the weekend.

Working together with the Jim Clark Trust, a display and demonstration of his Lotus Cortinas, and personal Lotus road cars, will be at the Knockhill round of the BTCC across both days of the event.

Stuart Gray, director of events at Knockhill, explained: "In 1964, double F1 world champion Jim Clark underlined just how versatile he was as a racing driver by winning the British Saloon Car Championship in his legendary Lotus Cortina, whilst also racing internationally.

"He won all eight rounds, amassing an impressive perfect 48 points in the class-based championship, winning from John Fitzpatrick in his Mini Cooper, with Mike Young finishing third overall driving an Anglia.

"But what was special about Jim was not just what he achieved but how he did it. On-lookers could tell which Cortina he was in amongst a group of similar cars as his flamboyant, but equally super-smooth style, often on three wheels and sometimes two, would set him apart from the rest.

"Some drivers have won more F1 titles, but whether it was winning the Formula One championship, British Saloon Car Championship, the Indy 500 in 1965 or numerous rally events, Jim was arguably the greatest all-round racing driver of all time, and in many polls of racing drivers, mark him out as the greatest of all time."

The BTCC is one of the biggest events on Knockhill's calendar each year, and thousands of fans are expected to flock to the circuit to watch what is regarded as the globe's premier domestic motorsport series.

Home fans will have the chance to cheer on Dunfermline-based star, Ronan Pearson, who is in his second season competing with the EXCELR8 Motorsport Bristol Street Motors driver.
