ATHLETIC have complete the signing of a goalkeeper ahead of tomorrow's Premier Sports Cup match at Livingston.

Kai McLean, who was previously with Celtic, has signed a short-term contract and could be available to be part of the squad for the game in West Lothian.

Earlier today, Pars boss James McPake said he was "hopeful" of adding another keeper to his pool to provide cover for Deniz Mehmet.

In each of their previous two Premier Sports Cup Group E outings - last Saturday's 3-0 win at The Spartans, and Tuesday's shock home defeat to Forfar Athletic - Dunfermline have not had a recognised goalie on their bench.

This evening, however, they have moved to bring in 19-year-old McLean, subject to SFA clearance.

The Northern Ireland youth international began his career as a youth with Motherwell before heading to Celtic, with whom he signed his first professional contract in July 2021.

McLean featured in the Hoops' under-18 team and was regularly one of three goalkeepers in their match day squads, including for Champions League matches, and, last season, was a regular in the UEFA Youth League, playing in five of six group games.

At international level, he kept a clean sheet on his debut for the under-16s in a match with England, and then went on to play four times at under-17, including against Scotland, Italy and Albania in European Championship qualifiers.

Twice selected for Northern Ireland's under-18s, McLean's most recent call-ups came for the under-19s, in two friendly matches with Slovakia, in preparation for European Championship qualifiers.
