JAMES MCPAKE has said that his Pars squad "can't dwell" on a disappointing Premier Sports Cup campaign as they build towards their Championship opener.
Dunfermline entertain Cove Rangers in their final Group E match this weekend and, after Saturday's loss to Livingston, are all-but certain to exit the competition regardless of the result.
McPake, though, is viewing it as important preparation before they return to Livi in nine days' time for their opening Championship match of the new season.
"We want to perform, we want to create chances, and there's certain players we'll get up to speed," he told Press Sport.
"It's disappointing the way the cup's went, the Forfar game at home in particular, so we want to put that right.
"Every game you've got positives and negatives to take from it. We know, on a whole, the group stage hasn't been good enough, but we're now building towards the league.
"It's disappointment again in this cup, but we can't dwell on that. We need to take anything from that game, positive or negative, and build on this young squad, and build on making it better for when we go back to Livingston in just under two weeks time.
"Every game we go into, that's the important game. Whether it's a friendly, whether it's a League Cup game, or a league game, we'll always look to get something from that game in terms of what we're looking for."
