DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club's senior men will play their first preparation match tomorrow (Friday) evening ahead of the new season.

The McKane Park outfit are back in training and will host Heriot's Rugby Club second XV in their first friendly game.

Players from both the first XV, who will contest their second successive National League Division Four campaign, and the second XV, who will play in Caledonia Midlands Region League, Division Three, are set to feature.

Speaking to Press Sport on pre-season so far, Matty Wilson, captain of the first XV, commented: "It's been good, especially getting down here from the start. Usually, pre-season, we end up all over the place.

"Tuesdays, Thursdays, we're enjoying it, getting that fitness block out the way at the start.

"Some guys enjoy it, some guys don't, but they have put in a good shift so far. The ones who have come down, they've stuck to it for an hour and a half, they've put full effort in, and I think they've got the rewards they would've wanted.

"Numbers have taken a bit of time to build up with school holidays - we've got a lot of dads, a lot of families - so numbers have dropped in and out.

"We've seen decent enough numbers over pre-season. We're looking forward to Friday and getting started.

"There'll be plenty of rotation. We'll see how that goes but we're looking forward to it. We're looking forward to getting ball in hand."

Gavin Emerson, head coach of the first XV, said: "Whatever age and whatever stage you play, we practice to play, so it'll be a bit more of a buzz around it this week."

Kick off at McKane is at 7.30pm.
