PITREAVIE AAC star Nicole Yeargin is preparing to compete in her second Olympic Games as the athletics events in Paris begin today (Thursday).

The 26-year-old is one of nine Scots, out of a total of 64, that are in the French capital as part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for track and field events.

Nicole, who was born and brought up in the United States but is eligible to compete for GB as her mum, Lynn, is originally from Dunfermline, is one of seven athletes picked for the women's 4x400m relay.

Three years ago, at the delayed Tokyo Games, she played her part in helping Team GB to fifth in that event, and to sixth place in the mixed 4x400m relay, for which athletes in the male and female events will be chosen.

Since the last Olympics, where she also ran in the individual 400m, suffering a disqualification in the heats, she has gone on to win women's 4x400m relay bronze medals at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships, and the 2022 European Athletics Championships, as well as at the Commonwealth Games, representing Scotland, two years ago.

Ahead of heading to Paris, Nicole said: "I didn't feel like I got the true Olympic experience, so it's really, really nice to go to Paris, out of all places.

"It's going to be loud, it's going to be fun - I can't wait."

The first round of the mixed 4x400m relay takes place tomorrow (Friday), with the final on Saturday, whilst the women's 4x400m relay begins on Friday August 9, concluding the following day.

Nicole will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of retired Pitreavie star, Eilidh Doyle, who reached the podium by winning bronze in the women's 4x400m relay at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
