TWO West Fife teams will go head-to-head in the new SWFL (Scottish Women's Football League) season after an expanded set-up was announced.

Dunfermline Athletic Women and the recently reformed Bayside Ladies will meet in the Central Division in the upcoming campaign.

From the 2024/25 season, the fifth tier of women's football will now consist of five leagues, which will accommodate new teams springing up across the country.

In addition to the Central league, there will be SWFL East - which the Pars competed in last season - North, West and South divisions.

All aside from the South, which has nine, will feature 10 teams, and the expansion to 49 sides overall comes only a year after the leagues moved from three leagues to four, and into the Scottish Women's Football pyramid.

Three places in the national leagues for next season will be up for grabs, with the five winners joining the second-bottom side in SWF League One in play-offs at the end of the season, with the bottom side in the latter relegated to their regional SWFL league.

Joining Dunfermline and Bayside in the Central league are newly-formed team, Carron Huskies, alongside Alloa Athletic, Cumbernauld Colts, Cumbernauld United, Central Girls, Glasgow Girls and Women, Linlithgow Rose, and Murieston United.

SWF CEO, Aileen Campbell, commented: "The fact that we have had to introduce a Central league, with teams from West Fife to the east end of Glasgow, shows that women’s football is only set to grow even further. 2024/25 will be the SWFL’s biggest season yet, and we can’t wait to watch the stories unfold."

The new season is due to begin on September 29.

Meanwhile, the Pars and Bayside faced each other in a friendly match at Pitreavie on Sunday, which ended in a 2-1 win for the latter.

They will meet again on August 11 in the first round of the SWFL League Cup.
