RONAN PEARSON has said he'll "look to come out fighting" when he takes to the track on home turf this weekend.

The 22-year-old will be in action in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Knockhill Racing Circuit, where he has set his sights on producing results he feels his team are capable of.

Dunfermline-based Team Bristol Street Motors driver Ronan, formerly of Kelty, picked up his first win in the prestigious series in round six, at Brands Hatch Indy, in May, but has not achieved a podium finish since.

Ronan is in the mix for the Jack Sears Trophy, a championship for competitors who, at the start of the season, had not achieved a top three finish in an individual race, and is looking to bounce back from a difficult weekend at Croft last time out.

He headed to the North Yorkshire circuit in confident mood, having topped the times at the venue during pre-season testing, but race three, in which he placed 10th, was his best result of the weekend, having finished 16th in race one before being forced into the pits to retire in the second.

"It’s been a frustrating weekend that ended on a high note, but obviously I was hoping for more than a single top ten finish based on the performance we showed when we came to Croft in pre-season,” Ronan said.

"As has been the case before this season, it largely goes back to qualifying because when the grid is as close as it this season, it’s very difficult to gain ground when you are starting lower down the order.

"Starting race day where we were, taking the hard tyre in race one was the obvious choice to get it out of the way and the result was pretty much what I expected, but it left us well placed for race two.

"Unfortunately, I ended up with a buckled wheel that we think was caused by the kerb at turn one, and it left me with no option but to bring the car in.

"I can’t hide the fact that I was pretty angry after the second race but I feel I channelled that anger into the performance in race three because every time there was a car in front of me, I was determined to make sure I got ahead of it.

"The team gave me a great car and I showed what we can do when things all come together, and another few laps and we’d have been onto the rear of the next pack of cars and trying to get higher.

"That was a proper touring car race to end the weekend and now we need to look back at what has worked and what hasn’t worked here and look to come out fighting at Knockhill.

"It’s my home circuit and one where I know I will have a lot of support, and I want to make sure I deliver the results we are capable of."
