GOALS for on-loan Scott Williamson "will come" for Kelty Hearts after he was hailed as a "nightmare for defenders".

Player / manager Michael Tidser is confident that the 23-year-old, who joined the club from Championship Queen's Park until the end of the season, will be rewarded for his hard work in attack.

He started alongside Craig Johnston in Kelty's League One opener at Montrose on Saturday, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and had a good opportunity to net a potential winner.

Although he didn't take it, Tidser has been encouraged by the contribution of his summer signing, who scored on his debut in the Premier Sports Cup at Elgin City last month, the first of three appearances he's made in maroon so far.

"Scotty's a handful. He chases pigeons up there," Tidser told Kelty Hearts TV post-match.

"Between him and CJ (Johnston), the amount of graft they put in, they're a nightmare for defenders.

"My only criticism of Scotty is having that composure, because he works himself ever so hard to get these chances. He's got a glaring chance, and he's apologising to the lads in there, but that will come.

"He's still young enough. He's scored goals wherever he's been, so if we can just keep working with him, as I say, the amount of work he puts in, he deserves to score.

"Unfortunately, he puts it over the bar, but it's a real good performance from the front two in terms of how we wanted to play today, and the pressure they put on their back four."

Tidser, meanwhile, wants his men to back up their efforts at Montrose by putting on a show in their first home match of the League One season on Saturday.

Stenhousemuir, who won their first-ever league title by clinching League Two glory last term, will arrive at New Central Park on the back of an impressive home victory over Arbroath, who were relegated from last season's Championship.

Kelty faced the Warriors in the fourth tier during the 2021/22 campaign, which saw a team captained by Tidser become champions, and they won all four encounters with the Warriors.

"We played Stenny a couple of years back when both of us were in League Two. They did ever so well last season to come up, I think they went on a great run, so we'll do our homework on Stenny," Tidser added.

"They picked up three points today, which is a great start for them, but as I say every week, it's all about us and what we can do to go and try and hurt them.

"At home, our first league game of the season, we want to try and put on a good performance and back this up because it's easy taking a point on the road, but can your home form be good, and try and take the three points?"
