SUNDAY’S visit to McKane Park by the Lord's based Marylebone Cricket Club saw some fine performances by the local players in the Fife Under 19 side.

Taking part in the Fife team, which was captained by Broomhall’s Ieuan Ward, were teenage Dunfermline and Carnegie players Dylan Wood, Nikhil Gupta and Arav Dejesh.

The MCC are keen to encourage cricket development all over the UK, and beyond traditional boundaries, and so were delighted to agree to an annual fixture against a Fife Youth Select.

This was the first match and it is planned then to move it on rotation around other clubs in the county in future years.

Ieuan certainly played a captain’s role by scoring 32, in the Fife reply to the MCC’s 220, while Arav made 17, with Dylan putting together 14 and Nikhil 10.

The vastly more experienced visiting side held the upper hand throughout, but the young Fifers ended up with a very respectable total of 125 in front of a good crowd.

Dunfermline and Carnegie president D J Deenadayalan commented: “The experience of the MCC side shone through but the young Fife side did really well and learned a great deal.

“It was a great experience for the club.”

An MCC spokesperson said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for Fife’s young cricketing talent to showcase their skills against prestigious opposition.

“We really were delighted to show off the best of Fife’s young cricketers and continue to build on our collaborative approach to maximising cricketing opportunities for all going forward.”
