PARS have signed a young goalkeeper on a season-long loan from Celtic.
Tobi Oluwayemi, 21, will compete with Deniz Mehmet for the number one spot in the team.
He was at Tottenham Hotspur's academy as a kid and joined the Hoops in the summer of 2019, where he has featured for Celtic B in Lowland League matches, as well as SPFL Trust Trophy and UEFA Youth League competitions.
Manager James McPake said: “Tobi is a player that we’ve been looking at for a while, he’s had a couple of loan spells, playing men's football and is a very good goalkeeper.
"We’re now comfortable with the two senior goalkeepers we’ve got in the squad.
"With Deniz and Tobi they’ll be able to push each other on, make each other better and we’ve now got two goalkeepers that are desperate to play.”
He will wear squad number 21.
Born in London, Oluwayemi has earned call-ups for England at every youth level from under-16s to under-20s.
After stepping up to train with Celtic's first team, he was on the bench for all eight European matches during the 2021/22 campaign.
Last year Oluwayemi had previous loan spells at Cork City in Ireland and Admira Wacker in Austria.
Dunfermline have only had one senior goalie, Mehmet, on the books since back-up Max Little left at the end of last season.
The team played the whole league cup campaign without a sub keeper on the bench.
After the German investors' shock announcement that they were to sell their stake in the club, it was also confirmed that funds would be available for McPake to strengthen his squad.
A new goalkeeper was a top priority and on Tuesday the boss had told Press Sport: “From the very start, we could have went out and signed another goalkeeper pretty easily but it’s not a backup keeper we want.
“We want a goalkeeper that can come in and challenge Deniz, that is capable of playing in our team if Deniz gets injured.
“Likewise, if Deniz isn’t doing well in games for a prolonged period of time, they can come in and challenge him to be the new number one.
“We’re hoping to have that resolved pretty quickly, we would’ve loved to have had it done quicker.
“We were pretty close with one and that deal went away from us but we know the requirement as a squad that we need to fill that position."
