SIX talented youngsters from Dunfermline Water Polo Club are ready to make their mark on the international stage as they prepare to make a splash for Scotland.

Eve Fielding, Ruby Oswald, Ruby Reid and Ava Thornton, as well as Bryn McArthur and John Wilson, will take to the pool for their country at the BWMF (Be Water My Friend) Cup, an international tournament in Spain.

Taking placing in Lloret De Mar over four days - beginning today (Thursday) and culminating in the finals on Sunday - the female quartet have been selected to represent Scotland's girls under-16 squad, with the two boys picked for their male counterparts.

Teams from across Europe are heading to the town in Catalonia, around 50 miles from Barcelona, to participate in the prestigious tournament.

Water polo powerhouses such as Croatia, Germany, Italy and Spain will be involved, as well as squads from the likes of Malta, the Netherlands, Switzerland, as well as Egypt.

Although all six of the Dunfermline players have played for Scotland in national competitions at under-14 and under-16 level, this will be the first time that each of them have been involved in an international tournament.

Ava, 14, commented: "I am really excited for this competition, we’ve been working hard for it all year.

"It will be a great experience for all of us getting the opportunity to play against some top teams."

Club team-mate John, also 14, said: "It's going to be a tough competition, but I can’t wait to get started.

"We need to thank our coaches at Dunfermline and the Scotland squad for helping us prepare for the tournament."

Peter Wilson, team manager with both Scotland and Dunfermline Water Polo Club under-16s, added: "What an amazing opportunity they have to compete against some very talented teams.

"For all of the Dunfermline players, this will be the first time they have competed in an international tournament. It is probably the most highly anticipated event in the calendar for them and the excitement has been building for several weeks."

All matches at the 10th edition of the BWMF Cup will be streamed live on their YouTube channel, whilst updates of the progress made by both Scotland teams will also be posted on Dunfermline Water Polo Club's Facebook page.
