PARS new goalie kicks the ball so far his manager joked that even when he miscues, it's "nearly in someone's back garden".

Tobi Oluwayemi enjoyed a fine debut between the sticks for Dunfermline with his saves and ability to boot the ball huge distances among the talking points at time-up.

The on-loan Celtic keeper was blameless at Ayr's goal, a deflection, and ensured his new team picked up their first point of the season with two stunning stops at the death.

McPake was happy with the home debuts of his three new signings - including Tommy Fogarty and Josh Cooper - and said: "Tobi (Oluwayemi) in particular was really good, he has a couple of really good saves and everything else he did he did really clean.

"He is going to kick the ball out the park at times but that’s because he kicks it that far. Even when he kicks it out the park it’s nearly in someone’s back garden somewhere!"

Time and again, Oluwayemi's clearances turned defence into attack for the Pars as he launched the ball deep into Ayr territory - and with some accuracy too.

He said: “It is a strength that I have and I’ve got to keep working on it to be more consistent with it.

"When you set up and able to kick it, it helps the team.

"Every time I get the ball I’m always looking for that and hopefully I can keep making those passes.”

Shrugging off praise for his performance, Oluwayemi reckoned it was " important to make the saves when called upon".

And he smiled: "A good day for me is having nothing to do and winning the game 5-0.

"Hopefully in games to come I have nothing to do and we just keep winning.

“The defence was great, Tommy had his debut and Sam (Young) was really aggressive, he was really strong and kept them out the box very well.

"He did brilliant.”

The 21-year-old found out the day before the game that he was going to start but that it wasn't a "big party" for him and his family. He admitted: “I kept it low key because I just wanted to focus on the game.

"Get the first one out of the way and then as I gain more confidence, and play more games I’m sure my family and friends will be welcome to come and watch.

“It was not a secret, I just tried to focus on what I have to do first.

"Because it was my first start it is not a big party and everyone has got to come down. I’ve got a job to do so I just wanted to make sure that I did that.”

On the match itself, Oluwayemi said: "There was a great buzz coming out, fans making noise, that’s what you play football for. It was a great feeling and a good game.

"It was good to finally get a start and hopefully I can build on from there.”
