ROSYTH SHARKS got their season off to a disappointing start as they fell to a 19-59 defeat to Kirkcaldy 2nd XV.
The Sharks finally got their season underway after their game last week was cancelled owing to opponents Panmure not having enough players.
Kirkcaldy made the trip across Fife to visit Rosyth, with the game panning out massively in favour of the visitors.
Head coach Mark Love spoke to the Press to discuss the positives and negatives of their opening day display.
He said: “It’s always disappointing to get beat but in terms of where we’re at and it being the first game of the season, guys aren’t quite match sharp.
“There were a lot of positives and negatives that come from the game – we got a lot of tries on the board.
“What was good to see was the structure we were working on over the summer is working – it still needs a wee bit more work to sharpen it up a bit.
“But at points where it did work, it got us into good attacking positions and from that, we got a couple of tries.”
The structure was something Love was keen to highlight in his post-match thoughts, which player Gregor Bruce adapted to well.
Bruce earned the first Man of the Match award for this season for his display against Kirkcaldy, earning plaudits from the manager.
“He did really well,” Love said. “He was all over the park, put in work well in defence and put in some good turnovers.
“He was willing to take the ball on and he made some good yardage.”
Next up for the Sharks is a home tie against local rivals Dunfermline RFC. Their Fife counterparts had a thunderous start to the season, dispatching Greenock Wanderers 50 to zero.
A tough test awaiting the Sharks, but one Love is looking forward to, already putting together a strong squad for the occasion.
He added: “This is always a bit of a local derby and we’ve already got a full squad saying they’re available.
“It’ll be good to get a more competitive game played – Kirkcaldy had a couple more experienced players.
“It’ll be good to get a more even contest against Dunfermline on Saturday.”
