Alloa Athletic 1, Kelty Hearts 0

A LACK of cutting edge saw Kelty suffer their fourth league game in a row without a win away to Alloa Athletic.

Michael Tidser’s men lost 1-0 to the Wasps, Conor Sammon coming off the bench to deliver the killing blow in the second half.

Kelty weren’t without their chances and were much the better side in a bitty first half, Luke McCarvel having shooting opportunities in the opening stages.

McCarvel would take on Alloa’s PJ Morrison on his own, with Williamson latching onto the rebound but sending his effort sky high.

A heart-in-mouth moment came as Ruaridh Adams charged out of his box to clean out Steven Buchanan, with the referee deeming it just a yellow card offence in the first half.

Adams was a bright spark throughout the game, making quick saves to deny Luke Donnelly from close range on either side of half time.

Alloa would make a change not long after, bringing on veteran striker Sammon, who found the back of the net just three minutes after coming on, only for it to be ruled offside.

Sammon wouldn’t be stopped for his next strike, scoring the only goal of the game and while Kelty searched for an equaliser in the closing stages, that would prove to be the difference on Saturday.

“I’m frustrated we lost the game,” Tidser said. “Performance wise – really good, I thought we looked really bright, sharp and passed the ball about well, everything I could ask of the lads.

“The downside is not having that wee bit cutting edge in the final third, we were off it today – that’s the first game we’ve not scored this season, that backs my point up.

“Fair play, Alloa are Alloa, I’ve played against them for years, I know how they work – they’ve got big physical boys.

“We nullified them today, with how quick we got away from them, we spooked them a wee bit.

“They win games of football with how they play and that’s what matters in this league so fair play to them.

“Just a bad day really in terms of not getting anything from the game.”

Despite the scoreline, Kelty created plenty of chances and on another day, could’ve rifled home a few of them.

Kelty’s attacking line struck the side netting twice, but it was decision making which was a particular source of frustration for the Hearts boss.

“We’re creating chances, no doubt about that,” Tidser went on. “We’ll always create chances with the players I’ve got and the players I brought in.

“I want to play a certain way and you can see we play football properly but we’ll make mistakes.

“Today, we were maybe running through and instead of shooting, we’re passing and instead of passing, we’re shooting.

“It’s just wee small things like that that make a big difference in games and today, it was just one of those ones where we couldn’t really punish them when we had good opportunities.”
