DUNFERMLINE Carnegie Hockey Club's ladies firsts enjoyed a first league success of the season against Stirling University Ladies seconds on Saturday.

The West Fifers were on the road for their third Scottish Hockey Women's Championship Two encounter of the campaign, and picked up a 2-0 victory.

They started the match well and scored in the first quarter when Mhairi McLintock, voted MVP (most valuable player) tapped the ball into the net at the far post.

Both teams applied pressure in the second and third quarters, but defences held up with no more goals scored until the final period of the match, in which McLintock scored her second as Carnegie collected maximum points.

They are third in the early standings, having drawn one and lost one of their other matches, and are two points behind early leaders, Heriots Trinity Hockey Club Ladies firsts.

In East District Women's Division Two, Carnegie ladies seconds played out a hard-fought match with Edinburgh University fives.

After a goalless opening quarter, the capital side took the lead early in the second and, although the West Fifers played well in spells, their opponents were relentless, adding three more goals across the third and fourth quarters to earn a 4-0 success.

In Division Five, Carnegie Ladies thirds were at home to Heriots Trinity, and were on the losing side.

Although they started promisingly, the away side opened the scoring, and established a two-goal half-time lead with a well-worked goal in the second quarter.

Three more goals followed in the third period and, although Joanna Blackwood scored from the edge of the D for Carnegie, the match ended in a 5-1 defeat.

On Sunday, and in the same division, Carnegie Ladies fours visited Stirling Wanderers thirds, but lost 3-0.

Meanwhile, Carnegie's men's firsts continued their Scottish Hockey Men's Premiership campaign against Erskine Stewarts Melville Hockey Club Lions, but were on the end of a 3-2 defeat.

It means that Dunfermline Carnegie have lost all three of their matches played so far ahead of this Saturday's home fixture with Uddingston Hockey Club men's firsts.

In the Scottish Hockey Men's Regional League Two, Carnegie men's seconds drew 2-2 with Edinburgh University Men's Hockey Club thirds, leaving them fifth in the table with four points from three matches.

In East District Men's Division One, the thirds were 9-2 winners over Stirling University, and, in Division Four, Carnegie's men's development side enjoyed a 3-0 success against Fidra Two Development.
