DUNFERMLINE have announced the signing of former Scotland under-21 attacker Dapo Mebude.

The 23-year-old, who had been on trial with the club, has put pen to paper on a one-year contract.

Earlier today, Press Sport revealed that the Pars were in ongoing talks to conclude a deal for the former Rangers player, and were hopeful that they would prove successful.

An agreement has been reached and Mebude could be in line for an Athletic debut at Airdrieonians this weekend.

"I'm delighted to be here, I'm very happy," he said.

"I'm very grateful as well for the opportunity, so I can't wait to get started."

The London-born player moved to Scotland at the age of 10 and represented the national side at all youth levels up to under-21.

A former SFA performance school attendee whilst part of Rangers' youth system, Mebude signed a professional contract at Ibrox in 2017, but only made one first team appearance.

After a loan spell with Queen of the South, he then moved on to Watford in 2021, but he suffered a back injury and never played for the Hornets.

He then had another loan, at AFC Wimbledon, before joining KV Oostende in Belgium in September 2022.

In January of this year, Mebude suffered life-threatening injuries in a freak car accident in January this year, which saw him cut out of the vehicle, and spend five days in a coma.

He also required emergency surgery and, in an interview with The Athletic following the incident, said: "Life can be taken away from you at any time and your career is short, so I’m really excited to get back playing and fulfilling the potential I believe I’ve got."

He has been without a club since the summer after KV Oostende were declared bankrupt, with a successor club, K.V. Diksmuide-Oostende, subsequently formed as part of a merger.

Mebude has been training with Dunfermline in recent weeks and, last week, played as a trialist in a 3-0 Reserve Cup win over Falkirk, scoring one goal, and setting up another.

Following that match, boss James McPake said: "He was excellent.

"I have known and watched him since he was 17. He has had a horrific time and he is now looking to get his career back on track.

"Credit to the lad, he has come in, worked really hard and he is a good player."

Mebude added: "When I got the text to come up, I was excited. Obviously I know about the club because I grew up in Scotland, and I was just coming in, seeing what it was like and, from the first day to be fair, I enjoy training.

"The team were good, everyone was good, the gaffer, his staff, and, to be fair, I felt I was part of the squad from the first or second day.

"It's been good."
