DUNFERMLINE Carnegie Hockey Club's ladies firsts reached the next stage of the Scottish Hockey Women's Scottish Cup after a dramatic tie on Sunday.

During a busy weekend of fixtures, they hosted Stirling Wanderers firsts at Woodmill - their final match there before the club make the move to their new home at Dunfermline Learning Campus - and won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

In the first quarter, both teams fought hard in defence and attack, while the scoreline remained blank, but a strong opener to the second saw Mairi McLintock give the home side the lead.

However, the visitors struck back quickly to level, before a penalty stroke, after a stick tackle occurred on the line, gave them a 2-1 advantage in the third quarter.

Dunfermline Carnegie fought back and, after two attacking short corners, and hard work from the whole team, Kerry Jackson equalised in the fourth with an amazing reverse hit.

The game ended 2-2 and penalty flicks were needed to determine the winner. After going to sudden death, MVP, Mercedes Black, scored to win the shoot-out 7-6 for Carnegie.

That came a day after they had played a Scottish Women's Hockey Championship Two fixture at home to Western Wildcats Ladies seconds.

A strong defensive performance saw them go into the half-time break with the scores level but, a break late in the third quarter of the match saw the visitors take the lead.

However, in the final 10 minutes, Kerry Jackson equalised to give Carnegie a 1-1 draw, with Chloe Clark voted MVP.

Also on Saturday, Carnegie's seconds travelled to Meggetland to play Boroughmuir in East District Women's Division Two, but were defeated 3-1.

Laura Donaldson, in the second quarter, cancelled out the home side's opening goal, but the Edinburgh team struck twice before half-time to win the game, with Carnegie's MVP awarded to Chloe Faulkner and Gill Oswald.

Meanwhile, a tough start to the season for Dunfermline Carnegie men's firsts continued as they fell to a fourth defeat from as many matches.

They entertained Uddingston Hockey Club men's firsts at Woodmill in the Scottish Hockey Men's Premiership on Saturday, and it was the away side who claimed the spoils with a 7-1 victory, leaving the West Fifers yet to pick up a point since they returned to the sport's top tier for this season.

The following day, the men's seconds were in Scottish Hockey District Cup action, against Hillhead Hockey Club men's seconds, and they too were defeated, going down 9-2.

The men's threes were in East District Men's Division One action, at Watsonians fours, and shared the points in a 2-2 draw, but Carnegie's men's fours lost 3-0 at ESM fours in Division Three.

In Division Four, however, the men's development side picked up a victory, winning 5-2 against Kinross Development.
